Hers: Design with a Feminine Touch

Bows. Chiffon. Polka dots. Lace. Florals. Satin. There are certain textures and patterns that just exude femininity. I want more of them in my life. So I bought Jacqueline deMontravel’s new book Hers: Design with a Feminine Touch. I think it’s going to be just the thing. Whether you’ve got a whole apartment to yourself or you’re sharing a home with two boys and a hubby, one always needs a room of one’s own.

Ruby’s Room

Joy created the loveliest little haven for her daughter Ruby. It’s such a nice mix of quirky and feminine. I love that it doesn’t scream, “This is a baby’s room!!!” There are no murals. There’s no overwhelming theme. It’s just a lovely space for sweet Ruby and her mama to spend time in. If you haven’t read Joy’s blog, Oh Joy, yet, what in zee heck have you been doing? It’s probably the blog that got me into blogging in the first place. Enjoy

Bedroom Inspiration

My bedroom has long been neglected. I want my bedroom to be a little haven for me. I’m thinking clouds. Soft puffy, ethereal clouds. So the look will be blues, whites and silver. The moment I saw this bedroom in the Feb/March 2010 issue of Lonny, I was in love. So I’m making it my inspiration. As soon as I’ve got all the cloud artwork and mirrors up in my bedroom, I’ll show you the final product.

Brighten Someone’s Day with Flowers

Lou, Boos and Shoes

You made it to Day Four of Random Acts of Kindness Week! How’s it going? Is there a little more shimmy in your shake? I hope so! So let’s talk for a minute about that person in your life who’s just got a whole lot of blah going on. I’m not talking about those people who seem to always feel blah. I’m talking about that upbeat girl in your office that just got dumped. Or your mother in law who found out her best friend is battling cancer. The cheerleaders in your life sometimes need someone to cheer them on. And sometimes they need to be reminded why life is worth cheering for in the first place. Send them bright cheerful flowers in red, pink or yellow. And pick some up for yourself too!

UPDATE: One of my sweet coworkers, Stephanie, bought me flowers for Valentine’s Day. It was the kindest gesture! The last thing I expected on Tuesday were bright bold red carnations. It was the loveliest surprise! My bedroom and bathroom have never looked so cheerful! Thank you again, Stephanie!

Romance Yourself a Little

It’s about that time of year when everybody starts feeling a little blah. The weather is blah.  Your motivation is blah. And even your wardrobe feels blah – you’re over the chunky knit sweater phase but it’s too cold to wear skirts and ballet flats.

What we need is a little somethin’ somethin’ to perk up our spirits. My suggestion? Romance. And I’m not talking about the kind that requires a beau.

I think we deserve our own kind of romance, don’t you? Let’s woo our fabulous selves by picking up posies for our abodes, lighting candles, dining out at that cute little bistro around the corner,  reading the classics, listening to jazz, taking long hot bubble baths, enjoying a massage for a delicious hour and half, watching a Cary Grant film, savouring a piece of dark chocolate and rocking hot pink lipstick. What do you say? I’ve already booked a massage for this weekend and prettied up my coffee table with pink tulips.
