When did the pursuit of happiness give way to the pursuit of prettiness?
How many diets do we have to go on before we realize a shrinking waistline will not make us more lovable? How many perfect strangers do we have to purse our lips and bat our lashes at before we consider our souls to be more desirable than our bodies? How many years do we have to look to our friends and lovers for acceptance before we pluck up the courage to love ourselves and not the manifestation of everyone else’s perceptions and expectations of us?
